Sony Vaio Lap-top Brightness Adjest at boot

I've installed Mandrake 2009 in my Sony Vaio VGN-c15GP Lap Top. Then I have faced the Va problem again with my laptop. Which is unadjustable LCD brightness. Default it is 100% and I was unable to adjust it.

Problem was same when I was using Ubuntu with the same Lap-top.

Finally I found smartdimmer application, which was easy to install and works fine with my Lap-top.

But now the problem I'm having is only way I have to adjust brightness is using command line.

Have any one found another way of ding this?

Next thing is, is there any way of setting the brightness to a preferred level at that boot time instead of its default 100% ( i.e. to a preferred value instead of 21 in smartdimmer )

So you have two problems here if I understand, you're uncomfortable with using the shell, and you want to set it this at start up?

# echo "smartdimmer 21" >> /etc/rc.local
(or whatever the command is to set smartdimmer, I have never had to use it)

As for the shell usage, if you don't like it, build a front end for it, or search for one, though doing it from the shell will also be far quicker and more efficient
