sony handycam with usb streaming model dcr-trv265e can i get this working in ubuntu ? thanks to anyone who can help :confused:

have you tried? are you getting any error messages? what program are you trying to do the streaming in?

hi akuthia when connecting the the camera to computer via usb ubuntu will not pick up that anything is connected at all, no error messages nothing, but if i connect a normal web cam ubuntu will pick this up no problem. i would have thought i could use vlc media player as this works fine on windows xp but wont work on ubuntu. maybe there are drivers i need to install?

Do any lights turn on the camera when you plug it into the USB port? in some googling, it looks like may need to be manually "powered on"
