Something is wrong with the linux box
After trying to install java runtime. I downloaded somethings and started the installation, the instructions where to put the "Self extracting file" to where I want to extract to. However I thought of just extract where it already is and move the files later. Well after extracting the "self extracting file" there appearantly was too much work before me that I didn't want to do, so I decided to just forget it and delete it all. I was deleteing and it won't delete? Also if I type "rm --help" I get "Segmant falt". Even worse I tryed to restart and it freezes at the "saving time" message. So I pushed the powerbutton, restarted and now linux won't start. It gets to something to do with dhcp and just freezes there. Not totaly I can push enter type things in (though it is not interpreted) and can push "CTRL+ALT+DEL" to restart but it freezes at "saving time" message again.
I have slackware 10.1, how may I fix this problem without loosing any of the data (or as little as possible)? Thank you! Edit: Anything? I am willing to reinstall everything as long as all my projects are safe. I have a few partitions so if I could back things up there that would be great. |
You can boot a Live-CD to do backups. Then you can try to reinstall the 10.2 without reformatting. Perhaps a boot on 10.2 then an upgrade following the cd's instructions can do it too.
