Some linux problem
 

Hi, I have some problem that need some of you to help.

1. I have install windows 2000 server, xp and suse linux on my machine. Now I want to install windows 2000 professional on my computer. My question is: Is it possible to install windows after suse linux? If yes, how to do that? If no, why?

2. After I install red hat linux, When I start at the login screen (graphic mode) the keyboard could not typing and the mouse could not moving. But when I restart in windows both keyboard and mouse could type and move normally. I don't know what is the main problem. Could anybody give me some suggestion?

3. I try to find any resource on the web to learn suse linux from the beginner. But I could not found it. Does anybody know are there any web site that offer free suse linux e-book from the beginner?

Do you mean you CURRENTLY have 2000Server, XP AND SuSE and you computer and want o install RH for a total of 4 Operation Systems? A little nuts don't you think?

Anywayz, Yes you can install Windows after linux, but it will wipe you bootloader, you will have to re-install it and possibly config the other OS's into it manually.

1>> What i think (with my experience) is that there should not be any problem in installing windows2000 professional after installing "linux suse" on yr system.....The only problem will be that the boot loader of the windows will remove the entry of "grub/lilo" bootloader from the MBR. So u will just have to retrieve that after installing the windows2000...

1. Yes, it's possible. Just go with the Windows installation. But then, the Windows bootloader will overtake the mbr. When that happens, insert the first SuSE cd and choose to boot from the HD. Once you're in SuSE, go to the Yast2 boot configuration, enter entry for the new Windows, and finally reinstall grub (or lilo).

2. You need to configure X, and choose the proper region for your keyboard. As for the mouse, you need to change the kind of device, protocol and add Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" (for mouse scrolling) in the XF86Config (or xorg.conf) file.

1. About the boot load GRUP of suse linux. Do I have to reinstall the whole of linux suse after i install windows 2000 or not? Because I'm new to linux, does it has any utility to back up the GRUP before i install windows? In my opinion, I try to backup the GRUP then install windows, after I install windows then I restore the GRUP again. I just predict the process but I don't know the real technic. Are there any demonstration on the internet???

2. For my redhat linux, I try to access my system by boot the redhat linux CDROM and press F5 in a rescue mode. Then I try to access the file XF86Config by using the command VI. I can edit the file press INSERT key on the keyboard. But I don't know how to save the file and exit from the file to the command line. Could you tell me how to do that????

1. No, you don't need to reinstall SuSE. The first SuSE cd has option to boot from the installed partition. Once you boot it, do as I suggested. Or (maybe a better suggestion), you can create a boot floppy from Yast2, so that you can come back to SuSE and reinstall grub. There's no backing up bootloaders; bootloaders just overwrite each other.

2. Once you have done editing with VI, press the Esc (escape) button, then type :, then wq and finally press the Enter button.
