Smile solution about using terminal on network on openVMS server.

if have a OpenVMS server, than now i need to remote connect to this server, i have a winxp computer, than i can using the software "qvt/net" terminal to connect OpenVMS server from my windows xp destop to this server.

Now i have face a problem, if i have a very old pc cannot install even windows 98, is it have any solution to using this all old pc as the terminal connect to this OpenVMS server, i have try to install very small software than direct boot from it without any windows OS, than i can connect this OpenVMS server via telnet, but problem is this software cannot support OpenVMS "keybaord keymap" example: when i press keyboard "keypad * key" it not have any function.if normal will go to mail, this is the OpenVMS fucntion key.

Please help me to find out which linux distributes like a very small direct boot from harddisk or cd,floppy to using the old pc to connect OpenVMS server via telnet important is can also using "OpenVMS fucntion key like * to mail".

Thank you very much.

If the OpenVMS host requires only a telnet login, you can run a DOS version of NCSA telnet or MS-Kermit. You can try installing a small Linux that can run a telnet client. I have installed Linux on 32MB '486 class machines, and used them for this purpose. This should also get you a ssh client, which your OpenVMS host may/should require. Exactly how primitive is the machine you are talking about? In my locale, people are giving away machines capable of running Windows 9X.
