Software Installation problems : Make recursive error

Hi

I have been trying to install many programs on my Linux setup, but I keep getting similar errors like this :

"collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [aaindexextract] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/EMBOSS-2.8.0/emboss'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/EMBOSS-2.8.0/emboss'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 "

no matter which program it is (including Shar utils, Java, etc) , following which the program does not work. What does it mean ?

Apart from this problem, the system is working and I can browse the internet, check my mail etc properly.

This is my system configuration:-

AMD Athlon64 3000+
Asus K8V
2*80GB seagate HDD
Fedora Core2

What am I doing wrong ? Any tips/suggestions would be very very helpful.

Thanks in Advance ,

Regards,
Mohan

hey ...

this is why the large mass of people chose windows instead of linux. the error above is one of them.

it is gcc link tool that gives you an error when trying to build your program, provide us with more output! your system dont have the required libraries.

you are not alone
