Snort Preparation Help

I am looking to install snort on some flavor of linux.

Which distribution would best lend itself to this? I first thought RedHat, but it is going all Enterprise and my fear is that i would not be able to keep it updated without being a RedHat subscriber($$$).

Then i thought about Slackware 10, but i haven't been able to get an install running (lilo difficulties) and after reading it does seem to be more Unix tasting than the other distributions.

Also what flavors of Linux have the best tutorials for Snort setup and maintenance?

And at risk of sounding snobby or lazy I need something more user-friendly than mostly command line driven interfaces. And you don't have to sell me on how awesome/stable Unix and Linux are, i just don't have the time to become a specialist in it with all of the other things on my plate.

Well, enuff of my bitching. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It does not matter what distro you choose, that's your personal preference. All you need to do is go to http://www.snort.org/dl/ and download and install snort... Snort will install install the man pages for you and there are a few books and much info on the web about snort.

Most 'linux newbies' tend to go for Mandrake, Fedora, knoppix, or maybe Suse.
