SMTP on Thunderbird
Hello everybody,
Im having problems setting up thunderbird outgoing account. POP3 has been configured succesfully, but if I want to send an email I receive SMTP server error. I use googlemail and this is how it is configured: servername: smtp.googlemail.com port: 587 secure connection: SSL Anyone has any idea? |
Well how about telling us what this error is? Have you followed the guides on google.com about setting up thunderbird to do this? personally I'd say ditch thunderbird and just use gmail instead, it's much better IMHO...

Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.googlemail.com failed. The server may be unaveilable or is refusing SMTP connections. PLease verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator. |
well, have you followed the advice there? what about the other things in my original post you haven't addressed?

One option is to use your ISPs mail server.
Most ISPs should have their SMTP server configured as a relay for their customers on their IP ranges. |
My current ISP (and my previous one) only allow their relay as the outgoing server.
|
can you use the local sendmail server to send stuff out. i know evolution allows this but i have no experience with thunderbird
|
well using local sendmail won't help with an ISP policy, and i'd really suggest using gmails own smtp as that will keep sent mail within gmail too as you are authenticating to send as well as recieve. much nicer.

again though... why bother? how will it help anything?? to benefit form this would be to then relay from that smtp server to gmail's... and then... why? either use gmail's smtp, or your isp's
