Hi all,
Is there any way to send sms from command line. I tried smsclient and smssend. But i cant send any sms. I think the problem is with protocols provided with them. I am living in India(Tamil nadu,Chennai) Kindly advice me, which tool i have to use for it and how. Thanks in advance. I am going to use it for sms alert for the monitoring tool Nagios..
I used the terms "linux sms server" in google and found a project in freshmeat called "smstools". It is for if you have a GSM modem or cellphone. I don't know what standards you have in India, but this may be a place to start. http://freshmeat.net/projects/smstools/
I don't have a cell phone & I doubt I would use sms if I did. Not after that guy in Canada got a $49,000 bill from Verison. Verison's definition of "unlimited" seems to differ from the one in the dictionary. Living in India, maybe your wireless companies aren't as crooked.
SendSMS connects to your service provider's web page and pretends to submit a form to their 'Instant Messaging' web page. Currently, Alltel Wireless, AT&T Wireless, Bell Canada/Bell Mobility, Cellular One, Cingular, SkyTel, Sprint PCS, and T-Mobile are supported. Users are encouraged to modify the provided templates to add support for any providers who are currently unsupported.
Sending SMS messages is usually as easy as sending an email; except you send it to the mobile phone service provider formatted however they have it. I.e. <telephonenumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com works for Sprint PCS and <telephonenumber>@myvzw.com works for Verizon. I've only tried these in the US, YMMV.
