smoothwall with dialup

please help,
I setup smoothwall to share a dialup modem,
smoothwall has 1 NIC card connected to a switch
which is connected to a Unix server.
My pc is connected to the same switch.
Smoothwall is set up as Green (Red is modem)
green address is 192.168.1.109
pc is 192.168.1.103
unix 192.168.1.1
Using an external modem connected to smothwall box
(old pc).
Not sure what info needed to help me so I'l describe the problem.
I can connect to smoothwall with a browser, home page shows connect disconnect buttons, when I hit connect it does nothing, logs show smoothwall dialing isp. nothing happens.
If I go to the 'maintenance screen and hit 'refresh update list' smoothwall dials - connects - downloads patchesbut
will not let me go to any web site.
I'm sure its me, some setting is off.
Please let me know what info is needed
Thanks in advance

You may need to have a mod move this to linux-security. And also you could try explaining this a little better. Take some time to draw it ascii style or something. for example;

Code:
[ Internet ]-------[ Modem ]------[ smoothwall ]------[ etc...]

Maybe you should check if you have your dns settings entered correctly.
If it is possible to provide some kind of logfile what is happening when you surf to a site, please do so. Maybe i can help.
