sme server 7.3 Repair file system error
Hello I just had a system crash and reboot, on reboot I was prompted for

Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal start up):
I went into maintenance mode and entered
fsck / -v y

This seemed to work then after seeing several FIXED messages the system went to

(Repair file system) 1 #
I typed in yes

The screen then flashes a continuous y down the left side and periodically a y on the right

The harddrive is 500gb SATA, with about 350GB of data. It is an ext3 filesystem.

You already took the easy way out supplying the "-y" switch to 'fsck'. So why, on fsck completion, you would like to use 'yes' is beyond me :-]
('man yes').

Because, like me, he is a newbie. The shell prompt is not intuitive to a newbie.

jamesjainfo - the "(Repair file system) 1 #" you saw is not a question, it is the shell prompt.

unSpawn - you are not a newbie. "Why" may be beyond you, but it's not beyond me - he didn't understand. Perhaps a slightly less terse answer might have been more helpful? Such as "I suggest you look up the command 'yes' by entering 'man yes' at a shell prompt"
