SMB-CIFS file inactive


hi
I'am a newbie 2 days old.i bought this laptop with mint 17.1
Rebecca installed on it.
Its been working great until yesterday when I logged on I
got black screen the mint logo on it,then going to black screen with pointer on it.I hit f10 upteen times and got a
running list of what was on it all were white and ok except
1 red it said SMB-CIFS file inactive directory service .
I did the ctrl+alt+F1 and tried several sudos ,apts and a few
others still the same.Please I need some imput. Thank you

Hi doriaday,

Welcome to LQ!

Sometimes you just have to wait a few minutes.

The CIFS warning is probably harmless. If you ordered the laptop with Mint installed, there should be tech support available from the computer maker.

Once you get to the terminal (command line) try typing
Code:
$ ps aux | less
and see if gdm3 is running. If it is, try:
Code:
 $ ps aux | grep gdm | awk '{print $2}' | xargs sudo kill $1
and see if you can get the GUI running.

If gdm3 is not running, then try
Code:
$ startx &
