smartmontools no wear leveling count

Hi

I am using smartctl version 6.5 2016-05-07 r4318. To my surprise, there is no Wear Leveling Count attribute for the SSD. I wanted to know the remaining lifespan of the SSD. If you use smartmontools do you have this attribute for your SSD? Or is it under a different name? Thanks

SMART info is custom tailored by the manufacturer for each model of drive. If the manufacturer did not design "wear leveling" into the SMART data for your drive, then it isn't there. SSDs are rated for a certain number of bytes written.

For instance, my Samsung in my lappy is rated for 150 TB of writes. However, I have seen other drives of this model handle 9,100 TB before failing. There's no limit to how many reads you can have.

Your drive manufacturer should have a utility to tell you how much life is left in the drive.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I know why.

Anyway, my SSD is recent, so I shouldn't worry about writes yet.

I do want to update the firmware of my SSD though, but I don't have windows to do this.

Samsung has a linux utility for updating firmware. I don't know about other manufacturers.
