Small Question on links

Hello all,

This is a noob question on Links,I usually make hardlinks of all the important files i have ,so that if the source is deleted i can still access it from the other file,i have a situation where i need to do the same with a directory, which is not possible through hardlinks and using softlinks doesnt make any sense, since if the source directory is gone, the target is rendered useless.

Does any one a solution for this,so as to if source directory is deleted i can still access the data from the other directory.

The only solution is a backup. You shouldn't rely on hardlinks either as a security measure, hardlinks are not backups. Some day you will discover that you thought that there was one left but you also erased it and didn't remember that while deleting the last one.

I remember a discussion about hardlinks to directories some time ago on other forum, in case you want to take a look (it won't provide you with a solution).

I agree with i92.
Afaik, there is only hardlinking and softlinking [symlinking].
I dunno of anything resembling what you're looking for beyond making sure you have a backup of whatever.
And backing up is pretty much one of the most important things to do if you depend on your system.
To many find that out after it's to late though.
