small fonts after rebooting fedora 9
Hello everybody,
A very strange thing happened today: the fonts changed after I restarted the computer. They are tiny now and with lot's of aliasing. I did not change any settings recently. I installed the OS in May and had the system rebooted many times since then. I have the automatic updates enabled, but cannot tell what could have affected the settings or what settings are actually relevant. Rebooting again did not help. I also tried to change the dpi in Gnome's System->Preferences->Look and Feel->Apperance->Fonts->Detail. It affected the fonts on the windows status bars only, not the text in the applications. Did anyone have a similar experience? I am totally lost... could not find anything online either. Thank you in advance!!! |
Do you have an ati card & do you use fglrx?
or X got updated? |
Hi Amani,
Thank you for the response. No, the card is Intel 965GM. There were auto updates but I cannot tell which of them were related to X. I'm placing the tail of /var/log/yum.log for the last couple of months below. The interesting thing is that different applications responded in a different way. For example, the email list in Thunderbird looks the same but the the messages have the tiny font. XEmacs has the small fonts not only for the text but for menus as well. XEmacs 21.5 (beta28) was doing this even before the reboot but XEmacs 21.4 (patch 21) used to look normal. Now both of them have this "compressed" look. This is a screen shot of the xemacs window on top of a web page with normal text and menu font sizes. I was able to make e-mails readable by changing the application font options. But what can I do with XEmacs?! Code:
