Angry Sm56 modem

I have an Sm56 Motorola pci modem running under Mandrake 7.2 with the 2.4.5 kernel. The rpm installs with out any problems but my comp wont pick up the modem. Is there anything esle i have to do to install the hardware or am i just screwed?

try this out.

if u have the sm56 driver installed as an rpm package then first type at the command line:

# sm56setup

# depmod -a

then do the following.

# ln -sf /dev/ttyE0 /dev/modem

# mknod /dev/motomem c 28 0

then try out kppp. see that the device is ste to /dev/modem
and then query and see if it works. The rest should be easy.
