There are many factors possible. The most important for me is your connection type. Do you use Wifi, Ethernet or ADSL?

I doubt it's all linux's fault, but some of it maybe.
What card do you have if wireless?
Put that into a terminal and post the output

Thank for response,
I have DSL modem C837 at my home, the modem works well enought with MSwindows based computers
broadband speed is 256/2500 kbits/sec
But then i connect to same modem computer with Linux OS, i got very slow speed 0.2 down/0.6 up. I tried 2 different computers, Dell and ASUS. Both computers have installed WinXP and UBUNTU 9.10.
I tried to replace CISCO modem with ALCATEL SPEED TOUCH 510, and then have good speed same as with Microsoft OS.
So I guess problem is somewhere in CISCO configuration.
