slow networking

I had to reload Ubuntu 10.4 from flash drive. Now my Ethernet is so slow that it is unworkable, I can ping both ways. Please give me some suggestions. If I can get a workable inet connection I can get the upgrades etc that I need.

Thanks
Paul

This can be due to IPv6 enabled when you only have v4. Also check DNS and route.

Ubuntu 10.04 is old and unsupported

please install a supported version like Ubuntu 12.10 or 13.04

also if you are running from usb2 it will be DEAD slow and almost unusable

use a usb3 thumb drive and a usb3 port
