Slow initial connection
My friend recently set me up a debian internet server. On the win2k client computers when accessing a website the initial connection takes around 30 seconds to connect and after that it speeds up while i look around that particular website, however again if i goto google it again takes ages to load up, but then the searches become fast.
Has anybody had this happen to them, and if so do u know how to fix the problem? |
Welcome to LQ.
It sounds like you are probably having problems with your DNS servers. Take a look at /etc/resolv.conf and make sure that your nameservers are specified correctly - just post the contents of the file if you are unsure. Also -which ISP are you using. |
im using telstra bigpond adsl in australia, also what command do i use to run the resolv.conf file, im new to the system and the server doesnt have a windows like environment to it, its like dos, so im not 100% how to use it yet

To see the file:
cat /etc/resolv.conf Looking at the support section for bigpond it should contain: nameserver vic.bigpond.net.au Also check your client and make sure that it has the same dns server set. |
