What do you mean by slow boot?
First tr to see what makes the bootprocess slow, where does it stop and takes time to continue?
You can disable services you don't need to start at boot.

I suggest you to roll back to Ubuntu 9.4. On my laptop (512 MB RAM), the 9.4 runs about twice faster then 9.10. I don;t know what they have done, but I'll wait for next version, hope they will optimize it more.

Hello,
Thanks for the advice does this mean Iwill need to uninstall Ubuntu 9.10 and reinstall 9.04? as being new to Linux I am not quite sure how you roll back the system to 9.4 any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks for your patience.

Actually, I've never done that, but you could try to install 9.4 on the same partition as 9.10, but without formating It (one of the steps when installing was partition manager if you remember). But I'll repeat myself, I don;t know what will happen with your data this way.

Try sudo apt-get install bum. This will allow you to choose the services to start-up during boot.
Also you could visit this: http://tuxtraining.com/2008/09/28/ho...extremely-fast

& experiment to check which settings suit the best to you. Nice tutorial in there.

You can not degrade from Karmic to Jaunty without re-installing. You will need to format the system and re-install jaunty back again.
