SliTaz can't mount partition but Ubuntu can

I've got one partition on my internal hard drive on my Asus EEE PC.

In Ubuntu 8.04.1, using GParted 0.3.5 sees it fine on /dev/sda1 and all seems OK.

In SliTaz cooking 20080716, GParted 0.3.8 has a warning. fdisk -l shows it as /dev/hdc1, but /dev/hdc1 does not exist. This means that a lot of tools can't do anything with it, because they complain that /dev/hdc1 isn't there. There is an entry, however, for /dev/hdc.

I'd really appreciate some help on this one, thanks.

there may be a script in the /dev directory called "MAKEDEV".
try entering the directory /dev and running ./MAKEDEV hdc
Hopefully it will make the proper entries for the hdc partitions.

I tried doing the whole thing again, for about the 7th time, and /dev/hdc1 exists now, but I'm not sure why. GParted 0.3.8 gives me a warning about /dev/hdc1, but it seems to work.
