Slightly dull sound - Soundblaster Audigy on Mandake 9.1

Hi,

Whenever I play MP3s with XMMS on my Mandrake 9.1 system, the sound is slightly, but noticeably duller than usual (i.e duller than on Windows).

My sound system is Soundblaster Audigy 5.1 surround. I'm very unfamiliar with sound configuring utilities in Linux, so could you give me tips on optimizing sound output for my sound system?

It'd be most appreciated.

Try the alsa sound driver found at www.alsa-project.org/
Works quite good for me. Especially if you use the alsa-plugin to xmms.
