Slackware (Store) 13.37 DVD Labling Issue?
I "think" I have discovered a labling discrepancy on a recently purchased Rel 13.37 DVD from the Slackware Store.
The release notes say there's supposed to be the 32 bit intel versions on one of the two-sided DVD, with the 64 bit intel versions on the other. However, My DVD visual labels are: "Slackware 13.37 (i386)" on one side and "Slackware 13.37 (amd64)" on the other... ( Anyone know if this a labling issue or a real discrepancy? ) When I look in the config file with huge.s on the side labeled (amd64), it seems to be supporting the intel.. first comment lines are reproduced here: # # Automatically generated make config: don't edit # Linux/x86_64 2.6.37.6 Kernel Configuration # Sat Apr 9 22:43:20 2011 # CONFIG_64BIT=y # CONFIG_X86_32 is not set CONFIG_X86_64=y CONFIG_X86=y |
Nope, that's what they all say -- the i386 side is 32-bit and the amd64 side is the 64-bit.
Slackware maintains compatibility back to i386 and it doesn't matter which 32-bit processor you've got, it automagically is compatible up to current Intel (or, you know, AMD) 32-bit processors. On the 64-bit side of the world, it's fully compatible with Intel or AMD. Plug 'er in and go for it. Hope this helps some. |
Thanks, it wouldn't be the first time Slackware did a few odd things, just look at the early release number sequences, even PV makes a few self deprocating comments.
