slackware startx problems

ok i need help, i just reinstalled slackware on pc here. dual boot.
So i boot in linux, and im in the console thing, no graphic stuff yet. i type xorgconfig and go through the steps to what my pc should be eg: 1024x768 60 hhz 24 bit color, etc. then i type startx and i get black screen. i tried setting all the stuff to minimum like 460x680 or w/e 8 bit color, and i still get black screen. Plz help me!

Make sure you have the right video driver for your video card....

I, for example, have an old SiS card that I have to use the stock VESA driver, anything else fails to work. Since I believe VESA is the driver it initially boots on, try setting it to that and try it.
