Slackware setup can't find CD drive
I am a newbie installing Slackware 12.0 on an old Dell latitude cpi laptop... I got past the partitioning of my hard drive ... my problem is at the "Source Media Selection" .... I choose "Install from a Slackware CD" but when it scans for my CD drive containing the CD it can't find it!
I don't understand why it can't find the CD drive since I'm using the CD to run the very setup program that can't find the CD drive... Should I boot a different kernel than the default one at the boot prompt? |
RE: Slackware setup can't find CD drive
You failed to mention, is this CD drive an internal one, one connected via usb, pcmcia or parallel??
give a few more details, and we can probably track down the issue for you. A |
I don't know why it happens, but it is very frequently to me aswell.
Try to leave the setup screen and try it again, I believe it might works. Sorry, but I really don't know why it happens. |

I fixed it...
I found on another forum the suggestion to type ide=nodma as a parameter when you boot the kernel.. now can someone explain to me what this parameter is doing and why it fixed the problem? |
it tells it to not load a certain module for the ide drive
