slackware: new kernel problems...

I just recently installed the latest linux Kernel 2.6.9 on Slackware 10 and i have got it to boot up fine but there a couple problems i have noticed. When i try to login to my ssh server now, i get this error:

ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/local/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory
Permission denied, please try again.
ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/local/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory
Permission denied, please try again.
ssh_askpass: exec(/usr/local/libexec/ssh-askpass): No such file or directory
Permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive).

and when I try to access any man pages, i get this error:

Error executing formatting or display command.
System command (cd /usr/man && (echo ".ll 9.0i"; echo ".pl 1100i"; /bin/gunzip -c '/usr/man/man1/man.1.gz'; echo ".\\\""; echo ".pl \n(nlu+10") | /usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/nroff -S -mandoc | /usr/bin/less -is) exited with status 256.
No manual entry for man

so i dont know how many things in total dont work right now but i do know that none of this happens when i boot into the older kernel.

any help provided is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I had similar problems ... have a look at
/etc/udev/permissions/udev.permissions

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe I had to change a
line from pty[p-za-e][0-9a-f]*:root:tty:0660 to
pty[p-za-e][0-9a-f]*:root:pty:0660 or something
the like ...
HIH

The problem also broke less for me :}

Cheers,
Tink

Thumbs up ssh-askpass

When you compiled your new kernel there is a setting you need to change in 2.6.9

turn off:
device drivers --> character devices --> Legacy (BSD) PTY support

this causes a conflict with some apps

It should work after this
