Slackware help...

Hi I'm very new to Linux. I just installed Slackware 10.1 on an old computer of mine and the install went fine. When I start it up it just goes to the black screen with tons of text mode, like the command place or whatever. Is there something I have to type in to run KDE or GNOME or something?

slack dosent start x automaticaly by default you first have to login usually as root then the password you gave it during the install then you have to configure x
Xorg -configure
then copy the new conf file to the correct location
cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
now you can start the x server by typing "startx"

now your slacking

Run xorgconfig to configure the X server. Then you can type startx to start a gui. You need to do that as root. You will also need to know what AGP card you have and the horizonal and vertical refresh rates of you monitor. All the ones I have here use 30-60 (vertical) and 50-100 (horizonal).
