slackware 12 configure wpa wifi

Hello everyone I am trying to get my wireless working on my laptop dell d630, I am using slackware 12, but i have upgraded my kernel to 2.6.24.2 because the intel pro wireless 3945 drivers are built into the kernel. It sees my wireless connection at wlan0, but i can't connect to my access point at home or at work. I have disabled security and still will not connect.
i use iwconfig to configure everything
examples
iwconfig wlan0 essid homewifi
iwconfig wlan0 channel 6
iwconfig wlan0 ap auto
iwconfig wlan0 key 55555 (example does my key need to be entered in hexadec.)

well i am pretty sure i set everything correctly but it still doesn't let me connect. I am tried configuring rc.inet1.conf, any help would be appreciated if you need anymore information just leave a message, thank you everyone

Hi,

Did you run 'netconfig'?

What is the output of 'ifconfig -a', 'route -n' and did you place your DNS in '/etc/resolv.conf'. Any changes will be made by root to be effective.

If you do make changes then be sure to '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart'.

Hi,

Post '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf' and if you are modifying 'rc.wireless.conf'. I would setup using the netconfig. You must be root to modify at this level.

You can setup the wlan with '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf'.
