slackware 10 X Window
Have a Althon 1.3 gigabyte machine with two 12 gigabyte hard drives. Have purchased the 4 CD/DVD set from slackware. Ram is 512 megabytes.
The graphics card is a PNY Ge Force 4 MX440 AGP graphics card with 64 MB of video ram. I have been using their Essentials guide to do linux setup. I have been able to successfully partition and load linux 10 and it does run. Have been able to access internet via DSL/router setup. Linux text modes seem to work fine. However, I cannot get any of the the X Window commands to work. I always get, "command not found" type errors. I must be doing something wrong when i set up partitions or select options during the setup phase but I'll be darned if I know whats' happening. To date, I have not gotten any warnings or errors during the setup process as outlined in their Essentials book. Any suggestions of what to check or change in the setup process would be greatly appreciated. :newbie::Pengy: |
Hi there,
Have you got Linux installed and running? Are you using a terminal in something like KDE or GNOME? It's probably something to do with your PATH if I understand your question correctly. Try typing su and enter your password. Run the commands you were trying before. If they work you need to add bits to your user's PATH. Let me know what happens. If you're on the right track I'll help you out with adding something to your PATH. Mike :) |
What X commands aren't working? do u mean 'startx'? did u do a full intstall?
|
you should def do a full install...i just installed Slack 10 today, and it was a piece of cake....it takes longer time installing MDK or SuSE even!
anyways, full install....that was my key |

How the heck do you post a reply to a member who answered your original thread?
|
i think in that case, just use the " quote " button at the right lowerside of the answer.
and you can also use the " edit " button to edit your own posts ( just like i just did :) ) egag |
