Slackware 10, 2.4.26 kernel, and a Radeon 9600 direct rendering help

I am trying to get Cedega (WineX 4.0) to work, but it says first I must have Direct Rendering enabled, which apparently I don't

$ glxinfo | grep "direct rendering"
direct rendering: No
But I do not know how to go about turning it on. Do I need to recompile the kernel to get the module to work, because when I boot up in Linux it says the AGP thing isn't working right (it goes by too fast to read the whole thing) and I don't know what that means, really. If you need any more info tell me how to get it and I will post it. I'm a huge to linux as I just installed it fir the very first time the other day and am still trying to configure it properly.
