Slackware 10.1 - Question on installing
 

I am a brand new user to Linux. Someone shared a CD bootable version of slackware. It boots from CD with no configuration effort whatsoever. It auto determines the IP and connects right onto the web. I have run this from my laptop as well as 2 desktop machines with no issues.

So I like what I see and I want to dedicate a machine to running Slax10.1. I went to the slackware.org website. I downloaded the large amount of data in the 10.1 stable directory.

So the question is now what. I can boot into Slax off of this CD I have, but is appears to be more limited than what I need to actually run it. I have made a fdisk'ed the machine and created a primary linux partition and a linux swap. I have mounted the harddrive so that I can see it (I still see the old windows files on it, because I don't know how to format in linux, or the equivalent)

I would like to be able to burn the install CD's referred to on the Slackware.org website, but not sure how to do this with the information that I have downloaded.

If someone can provide some basic instructions that would be great. Keep in mind at this point, I don't have a slax10.1 boot disk, and when I boot into the CD executable version, I can not go to command line and run #setup like instructions say.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated suggestions. I am at a loss, but frankly what I know about Linux/Unix can fit in a thimble. I am ready to learn though.

What was the name of the file you actually downloaded? Here is a list of mirrors in the US. Look for a folder called "iso images" and you'll be able to find the ISOs for Slack 10.1 there. Then, look for a folder called "slackware-10.1-iso" to find the MD5 sums for those ISOs. You'll need to check those against the files you downloaded before burning. I haven't seen a "Slack 10.1 stable" directory before :/.
