I have just loaded ubuntu 7.10 and have tried to download skype
but everytime the download ends and I try to open it it says
architecture fault .1386 deb.
I have used ubuntu before and have never encountered this problem
before,any help would be usfull.

It would be easier if you add the required repository then you can use your package manager to install Skype (and other media software). Open a terminal and do the following:

To add the required repository either type or copy and paste the command below:
Quote:

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
Before using this repository you need to import the gpg-key and update the package list:
Quote:

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

Sounds like you have installed the 64bit version of Gutsy.
If so you'll probably need to force the architecture.
