.sit files and .bin files in Linux
Having a somewhat trying time as a Linux newbie to get around the .bin .tar and .sit files among others, all of which I cant manage to open (dont ask). One gets a tool only to find its zipped with some other tool I cant unpack, go figure. Its a pretty horrendous thing to have to deal with when one is just starting out. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I have just downloaded a file called; "StuffIt Deluxe 9.0.sit" Question is, how do I install it ? I am running Xandros 2.01 desktop, any sugestions are welcome..

You've got the wrong version (probably the mac one).
Go here: http://www.stuffit.com/cgi-bin/stuff...gi?stuffitunix fill in what it asks for, and you should end up with a .tar.gz file. Unzip that with tar xzvf nameOfFile.tar.gz Dave |
mac apps on linux
Thanks for the help, it turned out that Xandros standardly delivers stuffit with its 2.0 desktop free distro but I think its the vs 8.0.
The point was trying to open a photoshop bin file from within a Linux OS, I had been told that for instance a Photoshop7 by Adobe bin (Mac edition) file could be extracted and installed on Linux, I wasnt able to open it with stuffit. |
