Question Single click to activate items - Gnome - file locate dialog

Hope the subject was not too confusing...

I have changed the preference in the Nautilus file manager/browser to "Single click to activate items" and it works.

However, when I run an application, say Totem Movie Player, and select Movie/Open I am presented with a Nautilus like file navigation dialog. This is a common dialog to most Gnome applications - probably part of Gnome. Problem is, the dialog does not respect my "single click..." preference.

Is there somewhere I can change this behavior?

Thanks,

Ken

p.s. I have tested this in Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 alpha 2 and CentOS 5.4 - I do not think it is distribution related.

Hello,
Here is the bug in GTK:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121113
It has been opened in 2003 and is not fixed to this date.

Thanks Agrouf,

I read through the "bug" and all its discussion - what a fiasco! I have recently become comfortable with the single click option in Nautilus and Gnome Commander - looks like I will not see it in the file chooser for another couple of decades

I think I will setup a Kubuntu virtual machine and see what happens in KDE. I used to use KDE on Red Hat and Fedora until I started using Ubuntu about 6.04. Kubuntu at that time had some sort of issue and Gnome had finally reduced its icon sizes to smaller than a football and I have used Gnome ever since.

Again thanks for the pointer to the "bug"

Ken
