simple questions on intranet software
I have a simple question about intranets and suggested software.
I've got apache and Tomcat6 on my desktop system which is Simply Mepis . I hardly ever use Apache however mainly playing with jsp. Someone in Ghana asked me if I could help fix a Jabber server out there, in a state school where they have been waiting 5 months for someone to fix it. I've heard about Jabber but thats all. It got me onto thinking about intranets & having a play using Tomcat6 on my Simply Mepis PC, and connecting another laptop PC using Jaunty Jackel and also having Tomcat6 on it, via a switch and RJ45 cable , and setting static IP addresses. The reverse of what I wanted happened ; from Mepis I could bring up a web page from Tomcat6 on the Ubuntu machine, but couldn't access any page on Mepis PC from from the Ubuntu machine. Anyway Tomcat6 is a web server , and am not that clued up on file sharing so started looking into a System which would have quite a bit of GUI on it, would be good for a newbie to set up an intranet, and not be too complicted to do gateway settings , so client pc'scan get to get to the internet at some point in future. I wittled it down to Zencafe and SME7 from www.contribs.org. Any other suggestions ? |
I'd like to say I have no idea of what you are trying to ask and I mean that in a polite way. Can you re-ask your question?

ok
simply this -I want to set up a simple intranet with one pc as server , which serves html pages to the clients. I have used Tomcat as a jsp test environment but wouldn't know how to expand the use of it for a 10 pc intranet. The question is - what would i need to do to utilize Tomcat on one dedicated pc as the server for a small intranet, or is there just simple software that would be easy as a newbie to use. |
Just a simple qn: if you just want to serve HTML pages, why not just use Apache? Adding Tomcat seems overkill...
