simple question
 

i type init 3 to take me out of x, then i type startx to get back to my desktop, but when i go to shut down the computer i only have logout, instead of the other options, end current session,turn off comput and restart, how do i get those options back,?

You have to start in runlevel 5 once again.. just logout, at the console type /sbin/shutdown -r now or /sbin/shutdown -h now, -r means to reboot, -h means to halt or shutoff.

The next time you boot up, you should be back in runlevel 5 and it will have all the available options you previously had.

Just remember to run "init 5" instead of "startx".
