I don't know if you've already solved your problem (your last post is rather old); but warmly recommed you try knoppix; or even better; kanotix. Both are LiveCDs with great autodetection. Kanotix is better fit for hd-installation.

Hi Night Frost,
Thanks for the reply!!! I had given up, back then after someone that I know... suggested Knoppix 3.4 No luck... When I received the email with your reply, I went back, & saw that Knoppix 3.6 was out.. I downloaded it, and kanotix, as you suggested... They both work!!! I need XP pro for connecting to the College network..unfortunately & I cannot get Knoppix to let me write to the NTFS filesystem I was told to use a capture NTFS command, but don't know how, to go about that Would I do that in konqerer? Do you know the command? OR Would it be easier to resize my HDD & put Kanotix on a Linux partition? If the latter would be better, would you tell me, the easiest way, to install a LiveCD to HDD...I never did that before... Thanks so much, I'm happy to just have a Linux OS working on it!!! One other thing. I couldn't get my PCMCIA card to conncet to my Wifi router, in either Knop, or Kano... Am I missing something? Kind Regards, Jay A |
Hey, I'm glad things worked out for you :D
I must first say that I'm much of a newbie myself, but I'm gonna try to shed some light on your questions. Quote:

Hi Night Frost,
Thanks again. I got kanotix, to install, right off the net, so everything is working great..I had a copy of PM 8 for M$, as win 95 was my first OS, & I just got into Linux OS's this year...so I obviously needed it!!! For someone fairly new to linux, you were the only one to help... I would have thought that one of the people using linux since it's inception as an OS, would have know, which distros would be best, but you hooked me up! Now it is time to get back to hitting the books, but at least I can now stop spending so much cash on M$ stuff, & get alot more outta this notebook..Yep browsing from Kanotix, as I write! Regards, Jay A |
I'm glad I could help ;-)
It's nice to be able to help out someone for a change -- until now I've been just asking a lot of questions (still doing though). Good luck! |
