Go to the volume control and uncheck the mute box under microphone.

HAHAHHAHAA i didnt even see a volume control. thanks *blush*

edit: how can i make it so it doesnt emit sound when i talk in my mic on my speakers?

I'm not sure if it is the same for you because I have Fedora Core 1, but on mine, there is a volume control on the bottom panal. I just right click on it and select "Open Volume Control". Or go to "Sound & Video" on the main menu, and click on "Volume Control".

i found the volume control fine. but now i want to mute the sound of the mic only to my speakers but not to my device. in otherwords i want to take the mic so i cant hear it on the speakers. i hope i explained that well enough.

I don't know how to do that other than just turning off your speakers:)
