As root, you can do: /sbin/shutdown -h now to shutdown immediately or /sbin/shutdown -h 10 to shutdown in 10 seconds, etc.

To mount a USB floppy, create a directory under /mnt called, say, ufloppy (or any other name); mount the floppy using mount /dev/xxxx /mnt/ufloppy. Here, xxxx depends on your system: if you have one regular ATA drive, then linux treats your usb floppy hard drive as a second hard drive; so mount it as hdb1 or hdb2 or a higher number (depends on what was used to partition the drive).

If your using KDE or Gnome just klick the "START" Menu button [like windows] and press logout. Then you should get to the login page, but there is a RESTART and a SHUTDOWN button. Look everywhere on the screen
in terminal "poweroff" should do the trick!

as root
"init 6" will reboot
"init 0" will halt, and shutdown
