shutdown problem
Hi,
i use KDE on redhat 9. The prob is my system doesn't get shutdown cleanly when i select shutdown from logout menu. After the entire shutdown procedure it shows message "Power down" but power never gets down. i have to externally switch it off. whats the problem here?? pls help. Thanx in advance. |
Are you sure that either ACPI or APM is running. I believe that one of these is necissary to shut off the power supply (also, you need a power supply that supports it, so if it's too old, you may be out of luck). ;)

Try uncommenting the line " /sbin/modprobe/apm " in " /etc/rc/d/rc.modules " Then reboot and try shutting down again.

Urgent Pls. Help
I have a similar problem.
I have enabled apmd in my machine. When I say shutdown -h now The machine shuts down. BUT reboots It doesn't get switched off. I checked for the /etc/rc/d/rc.modules (such file is not there nor there is /etc/rc in /etc) Also I did /sbin/modprobe apm It says Can't locate module apm Also adding the line apm=power-off hangs the machine while booting. I had put it this way append="root=LABEL=/, apm=power-off" But at startup of the machine apmd gets loaded. Something amazing to me. Please comment. Its very urgent. Thanks to all Rajesh. |
