should you ever skip broken packages

hi guys was ....sorry HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

was trying to install xfce on my centos 7 vm
was running through resolving dependencies but kept failing on 1

so i googled and somebody had a similar problem which people advised he use the skip command at the end of the yum command

Skipped (dependency problems):
orage.x86_64 0:4.10.0-5.el7

i looks like xfce is installed but:

should you never do this?

why does this happen?

will i have problems with xfce cause a package is missing?

whats the best resolution to fix these sorts of problems?

sorry about all the questions

thanks

I recently had the same dependency problem on a centos 7 server. I don't use the gui much, so I simply uninstalled orage. I suspect this particular dependency problem is a bug in the repos.

Sometimes for me, particularly if I haven't updated for a while, I may need to --skip-broken, often re-running yum update will straighten everything out.

Do yum info orage to see what that package does.

Was there an exact error message that you were getting?

AFAIK, if you skip dependencies and say have to upgrade xfce in the near future, it may cause more issues. Sure it could be fixed by hand, however you maybe setting yourself up for alot more work then needed.
