shopping for a compatible cable modem

I don't know enough about Linux or cable modems. I am looking for a good cable modem, but I don't have a clue what I should get. I need it to be compatible with RH 6.1 and Windows 98. Everything is compatible with Win98, but I want something that will work for both. Any suggestions?

If you get a cable modem that connects to your PC via a network card then your laughing. You just setup the network card, get and IP address and your on the web.

I do have two computers, but they arent networked. Mainly because I don't know much about networking either. Would it be cheaper (or easier) to network them, or just get two modems?

If your new, and your gonna get a cable modem and you want to share a internet connection, I would suggest getting one of those Linksys cable/dsl routers. Probably the easiest thing to setup, and works great giving you a built in firewall as well. It would easily connect your Win98 machine and a Linux machine to the internet.
But any cable modem is gonna work if your connecting it to your PC using ethernet cards.

It's probably more practical to network them together and then I only need one with a cable modem and I can share the printer and the CD-RW drive.
