Shifting Thunderbird mail and settings from XP to Ubuntu

Hi Everyone,
I'm moving all my gear in Thunderbird from Windows XP on an IBM Thinkpad to a Dell 1150 that is running Ubuntu 6.06 fine. I have copied the entire Thunderbird directory containing the .ini and .js files onto a USB drive. Using the Thunderbird Import facility (Tools>import) I'm unable to even locate any relevant files using the Import function. For example address books are in .ldi or .ldif files. I don't have any of those. When I try to import mail, the dialogue box offers to import 'Communicator 4x.'

I would appreciate any pointers in the right direction or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Stephen.

Maybe you could try to export it with Thunderbird's built in exporter(is there one?), so you could inport it under linux.

Find correct folder

There is a folder where Tunderbird saves all the stuff. Just copy this one into the equivalent in Linux, it will work. Read here.

What you need to do is this. It's just Windows -> Windows, but with Linux just the folder changes.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I'll follow the suggestions. My late reply was because the Taiwan earthquake broke a cable and limited internet access here in Hong Kong.
