shell server

I was trying to set up an ssh server so that I (and only I) could have access to my computer from school. To do this, I run

su -c sshd

and it says it's started, and I can ssh to, but I can't do it to

I don't know much (anything) about networking, but perhaps it has something to do w/ hub and/or router that I am behind?

The hub isn't actually doing anything, but it was easier than going out and getting a longer cable, and the router is in use to share teh connection between my downstairs computer and my upstairs one.

You probably need to set your router to forward port 22 (the port SSH runs on) to your Linux computer. You should consult your router's documentation for details. Chances are, your computers were assigned "private" non public routeable IP addresses from your router, which gets its connection from your ISP. If you can SSH from your other computer to your Linux one, then setting the router to forward port 22 should be all that you need to do.
