Shell scripting

Your script should prompt for a menu to get the following system information and modify some information accordingly:
1.Display Current Date and time, the time should be in 12 hours format.
2.Open a text editor to edit a file.
3.Get a user name and show his default shell. Your script should be able to change the default shell of that user.
4.Show the operating system name, kernel version, and your home directory.
5.The number of users who are currently logged in. Also show the number of users in your group.
6.Show the computer CPU information, like processing speed etc.
7.Display the directories in the PATH variable. You should also be able to add a new directory at the path variable. The information should be shown in a simple user friendly way that is you may show each directory in the path variable in a new line.
8.Display a summary of the disk space usage for each directory argument.

I thought classes haven't started yet... If I ever saw a homework assignment, here it is. :) Should I spare you a lecture about the advantages of doing your homework yourself? :)

Hi,

welcome to LQ!

And whose instructor are you, whom is this assignment for?

Cheers,
Tink

Most elementary, High School along with college started here last week. Some state schools won't start until next week.

BTW, this looks verbatim text book. The OP needs to address the queries to his/her instructor instead of fishing here for the big one.

I wish there was a filter for this type of query. I would add 'urgent', 'Please Help', 'Script needed' ... :)

?????

Would you like fries with that?

Per the LQ Rules, please do not post homework assignments verbatim. We're happy to assist if you have specific questions or have hit a stumbling point, however. Let us know what you've already tried and what references you have used (including class notes, books, and Google searches) and we'll do our best to help. Also, keep in mind that your instructor might also be an LQ member.

Above is the standard homework response. My personal policy is to close the obvious "cut and paste" homework postings. I encourage you to start a new thread which complies with the guidelines above.

Good luck!!
