shell scripting


Dear ALL

Can anyone tell me
how to access this string "/mnt/ide/aa/bb/cc"
as
"/mnt/ide/aa/bb/cc"
then as
"/mnt/ide/aa/bb/"
then
"/mnt/ide/aa/bb/"
then as
"/mnt/ide/aa/"

using awk.

Deleting or omitting fields was handled in one of your pervious threads, so please check them. I also notice you make a habit out of asking questions without offering any evidence of you having even though about it or tried anything. So next time please post what you tried. If you are going to need default tools more I think it also would be good to invest some time reading tutorials.

I don't know what you mean by "access this string". Are you trying to edit the string? Please give more context---ie what problem are you trying to solve?
