Sharing with Windows
I know there are a couple of threads which address similar issues, but I didn't want the issue lost in the shuffle.
I have a Win2k (yeah - i would rather switch than give more $$ to M/S) - and a machine with Ubuntu 8.04 - The Ubuntu machine can see the shares on the Windows box, but when I try to map a network drive from the windows box things get shaky. I see the shares as drives in Network Places. When I right click, select Map Network Drive, the prompt comes up for username / password. i enter the same UN / PW combo which I log in with (on the Ubuntu machine, but the login prompt box just comes back, username filled in, p/w blank. The username is listed in the Samba Share access list - If I select 'Allow access to everyone' within Samba - I can see the content of the Ubuntu share without a problem. What am i missing? |
you need to setup the user with a sambapassword. Use the command smbpasswd <username here> to give that user a password.
