Sharing a 3g mobile USB modem for home network
Dear all,
I live in an area where the only available access to the Internet is through 3G cell network. I am currently sharing the 3G USB modem with an Edimax router that fits an USB port but it is very unstable and use to freeze frequently. I was thinking that I could grab some old hardware and build a linux box that might work as a replacement for the edimax router while making adding some fun to the process of building it. Which distro and hardware specs would you guys recommend for that? Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance. Regards. -Marcelo |
if you plan to use it just to share the internet connection you can have the minimal specs, like 512MB RAM, low cpu, low everything
Install linux without any xwindow, just the minimal |

use microcore from this page: no X, no windows.. put your command lines in the scripts which are started at boot. You need few memory.. few cpu.. good luck (in the tinycorelinux forum you can see few advice how to connect your 3g modem, or simply ask for specific support) |
