share problems

I have installed Mandrake 9.2 to be used as a file/web server on my network. I have samba running and believe I have it all set up right. Now my problem is this:

a) I CAN see my 2 xp machines as well as the 2000 machine on the mandrake box however, can't see the shares. I believe I have the permissions set up for "everyone"

b) I can NOT see the mandrake box from any of the other machines...

Any help would be great and thank you.

Have a look at the samba log file

Usually /var/log/samba/

Depending how you have setup samba, all your logs will be there..

Just look at it, you may find something interesting there

Re: share problems

1) How are you trying to access the files on them? If you want something that loosely resembles 'network neighbourhood' (or whatever it is called now) you might want to take a peek at LinNeighborhood. Alternatively, you could try Konqueror's implementation smb:// as the url/location. Don't know about Gnome's offering, but I'm sure they offer something similar in Nautilus (or whatever).

2) What is your samba.conf file like? Is the Mandrake machine on the same workgroup? Have you set it up for user or share level? Are the file permissions on the share correct?

Good luck.
