shading
This may be a dumb question but I am working with fedora 12 for the first time and I'm not very familiar to Linux just yet. I need any Information on shading, if anyone can shed a little light on the topic of shading, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, welcome to LQ!
"Shading" as in .... ? Are you a 3D game developer and asking about Gl functionality? Cheers, Tink |
shading ?? as in what
Also fedora 12 is DEAD and unsupported there have been NO updates or bug fixes in about a year and there NEVER will be . If you are going to use fedora then STAY current and do a clean install with fedora 15 then in 5 months install fedora 16 . |
Its a college course question. we are using fedora 12 as the OS of choice, not my choice. I would prefer the newest version. But if you know colleges, they are all behind the times. This is the reason why I'm having a hard time with this, because i need to give some information on "shading" but that's all the questions asks. Everywhere I look for a possible answer I cant seem to find one. All know is its GNOME component or feature and I'm asked to describe it. Apparently there are more then one way to shade?

again shading as in what
in c coding ? in opengl coding in python ? in gtk? in qt4 or the old qt3 ? In 2d or 3d ? |
As far as I know, shading has nothing at all to do with GNOME. It's a computer graphics concept.
|
Gnome is GTK but i can run QT 2d and 3d in gnome
or run Nvidia CG ( c for G ) in a gnome gtk application or run gtk and do window shading for the window . so more info is needed. |
see thats the thing. i have no idea? all im looking for is the concept of shading. I was given the term only, and i havent found anything to help me with this concept of "shading" I was told, yes that is has to do with graphics but other then that i dont have any clue. I'm new to the Linux world so i dont know that much about it yet.

Shading, or shaders?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaders Furthermore, which college is this? It sounds like one to avoid. |
I know nothing about graphics except how to look at them, but I found this:

Unless it is a reference to "shading" a window -That is hiding all of it but the title bar- with a manager (Such as in compiz). Mine fold in a horizontal pattern when I double click, but there are tons of other options. Other then that all I can think of is to click on the links provided above, and see if that is what you want.

YES!!! Thank you, that's exactly what I was looking for. I slowly bits and pieces as the last week has gone on. But you all gave me the information I was looking for, simple really but didn't know what they were trying to get when they just said the term "Shading"
